At McClelland Refrigeration, we’ve been installing and servicing heat pumps across Dunedin and Otago since 1990, and a growing share of that work now comes from landlords getting their rental properties compliant with the Healthy Homes Standards. We keep having a version of the same conversation with landlords in South Dunedin. They installed a heat…
Installing a heat pump is one of the most effective ways to improve comfort in a Dunedin home. With cold winters and frequent damp conditions, modern heating systems make a noticeable difference. But many homeowners focus only on the unit itself. What often gets overlooked is how plumbing plays a role in how well that…
Upgrading an older home in Dunedin can be rewarding, but it rarely comes without surprises. Many properties across areas like Mornington, St Clair, and North East Valley were built long before modern heating and cooling systems became standard. That means when it’s time to improve comfort, energy efficiency, or resale value, it’s not just about…
There’s nothing quite like a Dunedin southerly to test your home’s heating. You see the icy blast coming across the harbour, and you crank up the heat pump, hoping it will hold back the chill. But if your unit is getting on a bit, you might notice it’s roaring away without making much difference, and…
Fujitsu makes some of the most reliable heat pumps available in New Zealand, but the range is wide and the differences between models matter. If you are searching for Fujitsu heat pumps Dunedin homeowners can count on through a full Otago winter, the brand is a sound starting point. But choosing the wrong system type…

Determining whether to invest in air conditioning in Dunedin often comes down to a simple question of value. In our unique coastal climate, a climate control system is far more than a luxury for the few warm weeks of summer. We have found that for most homeowners, the transition to a modern heat pump system…
Installing a heat pump is one of the smartest ways to stay comfortable through Dunedin’s unpredictable weather. With the right system and a professional installation, your home can stay warm in winter and cool in summer without sending your power bills through the roof. At McClelland, we’ve been helping local families and businesses for over…
When it comes to heating homes in Dunedin, not all heat pumps are created equal. Some systems look good on paper, but few can endure real Southern winters where moisture and wind make conditions harsh. Whether the home is a compact inner-city flat or a sprawling villa on the hillside, what matters most is performance…
Heating your home through Dunedin’s long, cold winters is a reality every local homeowner faces. With power prices rising and older homes still common across the region, choosing the most efficient and cost-effective heating solution matters more than ever. Heat pumps have become a leading choice, but how much does it really cost to run…
“I highly recommend John and his team. They don’t just sell to you, they found the problem with my heat pump and didn’t give up until it was fixed… and they didn’t sell me a new pump! Great service thanks guys”

“Absolutely fantastic”
“Outstanding service. Online email enquiry sent Saturday afternoon, John met us on Sunday to assess our home & discuss our options. Pump was completely installed by lunchtime Wednesday. Absolutely fantastic to be sitting in a nice cool house while outside is a ghastly 28 degrees with zero breeze. We have no hesitation in recommending McClellands to anyone looking for a reliable company to deal with”
“The end result is beyond expectation”
“Needed 7 heat pumps fitted to our heritage house and I didn’t want an octopus of plumbing all over the house and was worried as I am organising this from Australia. John understood exactly what I desired. Everything is neat and aligned and out of direct view. They went out of their way to run a minimum amount of conduit and it shows that they made an effort to do the job well. Thanks John and staff I’m impressed and thanks for the photos”
